- i'm having a problem with my computer that nobody seems to be able to
- fix. i've taken my computer into the shop 3 or 4 times now, and i'm just
- about to give up.
- the problem originally started when my IO card suddenly stopped working .
- i was not able to dial with the modem. i switched com ports and the other
- one wordked. so it was obviously the com port.
- i took the machine into the place i bought it, and told them to replace
- the io card. they said they didn't have one with high speed ports and
- that they'd have to order some in.
- when they got some in, they wouldn't work for some reason too..
- so they finally got one in, that they said worked.
- i took the machine home, and plugged it in, but it still didn't work as
- well as it was origininally...it would not connect at 288. and when it
- did, there were a bunch of errors.
- so i took the computer in again.
- this time they installed a new io card which they said worked. they
- tested the modem too, and said it worked.
- but this time i'm not in town to test the machine myself (i'm on co-op),
- so my dad was testing it.
- he said that the modem connects, but will only connect at 1200 baud.
- even though the terminal program and slip/ppp dilaer are set up to
- connect at the highest speed.
- does this look like a com port problem or a modem problemwhat's a good
- way of testing it?
- my dad is ready to hire an OS2 expert..but i don't want him to spend
- big bucks, when it could still be a problem with the hardware.
-
- thanks for any help you can give me.
